Orthodontics is often seen as being for children, but it can also benefit adults. After all, anyone can benefit from the aesthetic and health benefits of straighter teeth and a properly aligned jaw. And thanks to Invisalign®, older patients can have these improvements made more discreetly. If you schedule a consultation with Dr. Patil to discuss options for orthodontics, she can determine whether you’re a candidate for metal braces or Invisalign® to correct crowded/crooked teeth, underbite, overbite, unevenly spaced teeth, and other issues.

Traditional Orthodontics

Traditional metal braces and wires are made up of brackets and wires that apply pressure to the teeth to slowly move them towards new positions. There are many kinds of orthodontic treatments available, yet braces remain one of the most reliable options for addressing many complex issues. The average time for wearing braces is between 18 and 24 months, although some treatments may be shorter or longer depending on the kind of changes that need to be made.

Similar to traditional braces, Invisalign® exerts pressure on the teeth to correct their positions. However, this form of treatment involves wearing a series of removable aligners that stay in the mouth for 20 to 22 hours every day. Invisalign aligners are transparent and are designed to sit right up against the teeth, so many people won’t notice them if they don’t know what to look for. Also, being removable means your aligners won’t stop you from eating all your favorite foods or brushing thoroughly.
